Today’s blog post is devoted to the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival (端午节 duān wǔ jié), that has been celebrated for over 2,000 years in order to commemorate Qu Yuan (340-278 BC), Chinese ancient poet and minister. Although Dragon Boat Festival enjoys higher popularity in southern provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Fujian, cities like Shanghai or Beijing, like to join festivities, too. Apart from Dragon boat races, one of the festival’s symbols are zongzi (粽子 zòngzi) - a pyramid-shaped sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo, lotus or banana leaves. How zongzi became a tradition and what zongzi fillings you can choose from - all that is covered in the following read. Enjoy!
